Byron Wien

Byron Wien (1933–2023) was a legendary Wall Street strategist and Vice Chairman of Blackstone’s Private Wealth Solutions. He was famous for his annual list of "Ten Surprises," which he published for nearly 40 years. Wien was an oracle of the markets, known for his ability to predict macroeconomic shifts that the consensus missed.\n\nHe is the co-author of Soros on Soros (with George Soros) and wrote extensively on investment strategy. Wien’s philosophy centered on "thinking against the crowd." He argued that the market consensus is usually priced in, so the money is made by identifying the "surprises"—events with a 50% chance of happening that the market assigns a 10% chance to. His wisdom guided generations of investors.
