Carrie M. Lane
Carrie M. Lane is a Professor of American Studies at California State University, Fullerton. She is a cultural anthropologist who studies the changing nature of work and organization in the United States. Lane focuses on the precariousness of the modern economy, particularly for white-collar workers.\n\nShe is the author of A Company of One: Insecurity, Independence, and the New World of White-Collar Unemployment and co-editor of Anthropologies of Unemployment. Lane explores the ideology of "self-management." She argues that workers have internalized the idea that they are solely responsible for their own success or failure, letting corporations off the hook. Her work is a critique of the neoliberal shift that turned employees into "companies of one."
