J. Doyne Farmer
J. Doyne Farmer is a physicist, economist, and complexity scientist. He is currently the Director of the Complexity Economics program at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School. Farmer has a legendary background that includes being a pioneer of chaos theory and famously using physics to beat the game of roulette in Las Vegas in the 1970s.\n\nHe is the author of Making Sense of Chaos: A Better Economics for a Better World. Farmer is a vocal critic of standard economic models that assume people are rational and markets are efficient. Instead, he advocates for "complexity economics," which uses computer simulations to model the global economy as a complex, evolving ecosystem. His work aims to provide better tools for predicting financial crises and understanding climate change.
