Nena, a rancher's daughter in 1840s Mexico, has grown up amidst the looming threat of Anglo settlers encroaching from the north, but a far darker menace stalks the night near her home. This sinister force, a creature that feeds on men and leaves them lifeless, attacked her nearly a decade ago. Meanwhile, Néstor, who believed Nena lost to him forever, has been fleeing his sorrow, drifting from one ranch to another as a vaquero. Despite his efforts, he cannot escape the haunting visions of deadly fangs or the memory of his first love. In 1846, as the United States invades Mexico, fate reunites them. Nena, now a curandera, seeks to prove herself to her father, hoping to avoid an unwanted marriage, while Néstor rides with the auxiliary cavalry alongside fellow ranchers. The shock of meeting again is quickly eclipsed by the re-emergence of the otherworldly horror they thought was a distant memory. To survive the impending doom, Nena and Néstor must confront their shared past and unite, for only together can they hope to see another sunrise.
